Denim Collection for ‘MAGGIE’: A Journey from Concept to Reality
During my undergraduate studies at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Hyderabad, India, my graduation project at Velocity Apparelz in Ismailia, Egypt, involved the complete product development process for an innovative denim collection for the Italian brand ‘MAGGIE’.
Innovative Techniques and Designs
The denim collection I developed for ‘MAGGIE’ showcased several techniques that set it apart from conventional designs. Here are some of the key highlights:
Dip Dyed and Bleached Ombre Effect:
- This design involved dip-dying and bleaching denim to achieve an ombre effect. This technique was applied to both shirts and pants, resulting in a gradient transition of colours that added a modern and stylish touch to the garments.
Laser Engraved Brick Pattern:
- One of the standout pieces in the collection featured a laser-engraved brick pattern on denim, which was then over-dyed with a striking red colour. This combination of laser engraving and vibrant dyeing created a visually captivating effect, adding depth and texture to the fabric.
Neon Mint Green Over-Dyed Denim:
- To infuse a pop of colour and vibrancy, I experimented with neon mint green over-dyeing on bleached denim. This unconventional approach brought a fresh and contemporary look to the collection, making it stand out in the competitive market.
Skinny Jeans with Stretch Fabric:
- Understanding the importance of comfort and fit, I designed a skinny jeans with a 2-inch stretch fabric on the side seam. This addition provided enhanced flexibility and ease of movement for the wearer, combining style with functionality.
Awards and Recognition: The denim collection I created for ‘MAGGIE’ received accolades and recognition for its creativity and uniqueness. I was honoured with the Best Innovative Project and Best Graduation Project awards in 2015, a testament to the hard work and dedication invested in this project.
Conclusion: This graduation project was a significant milestone in my career, allowing me to blend traditional fashion techniques with cutting-edge innovations. It reinforced my passion for creating functional and stylish apparel that meets the needs of modern consumers.
